Athens Projected and Actual Release Dates
A projected date is a calculation or eligibility marker. An actual date records the custody event that occurred. ODRC uses the public label Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date and defines it as a projected release date or date pending parole consideration. Those alternatives must not be collapsed into a promise.
For a definite prison sentence, the field can reflect the department's calculation after applicable credits. For an older-law or life sentence requiring board action, it may mark eligibility or pending review. ODRC says review may occur before a future next-parole date so a decision can be made in time, but the displayed date itself does not grant parole.
A person awaiting trial at SEORJ is different. Bond, recognizance, dismissal, sentencing, transfer, and holds can control departure, so there is no sentence-based projected date to compute. The court entry supplies authority, while the jail record supplies the physical release time.
Find an Athens County Release Date
First identify whether the person is in regional-jail, Ohio prison, community-corrections, federal, or immigration custody. County of conviction alone does not identify the holding agency. Search the person, not merely the location.
- For an Ohio prisoner, open the ODRC Offender Search and search by offender number when possible.
- Otherwise use last and first name, then treat Athens County of Commitment as a cross-check rather than sole proof.
- Match photograph, offender number, offense, docket, effective sentence date, and admission details.

ODRC Date Fields for Athens Prisoners
The offender detail can carry several date concepts. Expected Release Date/Parole Eligibility Date is the main public field. POA means parole on or after. PRD means projected release date. An Earliest Possible Transfer Date concerns possible transitional control, which is structured community confinement or supervision rather than sentence discharge.
A TC or TT expiration field may describe projected halfway-house expiration, not the day a person walked out of prison. A supervision start date is stronger evidence that prison confinement ended and APA authority began. ODRC records also can show jail-time credit, aggregate or net sentence, admission or effective-sentence information, offense and docket data, parole hearing results, supervision period, and conditions. Not every record has every field, and ODRC warns that sentence information can be incomplete.
Ohio Credits in Athens Release Calculations
Ohio does not support a sound universal claim that every person serves the same percentage. The date depends on the sentence type and current statutes. ORC 2967.194 provides eligible ODRC prisoners earned credit for completed approved programming or activities, with excluded sentences and offenses. Credits can be denied or reduced under the statutory process.
ORC 2967.191 addresses jail-time credit for confinement arising from the offense. The sentencing court identifies the days to credit, and ODRC incorporates that information into its calculation. A docket entry and the ODRC detail should be reconciled when the credit appears disputed.

For applicable life and older-law sentences, ORC 2967.13 sets eligibility rules and exclusions. Life without parole and specified categories do not become eligible under the cited provisions. Consecutive sentences and the precise conviction can change the calculation.
The Ohio Parole Board's decision must be separated from physical release. Granted, denied, continued, deferred, or rescinded results describe board action. After a favorable outcome, the ODRC record should later show the resulting status, POA/PRD information, release detail, and any APA supervision start.
If ODRC lists a next hearing month, search the person directly. An Athens filter may not return every person whose record has several committing counties because the first listed county drives that query.
Why Athens Release Dates Change
A projected date can move because the facts used in the calculation change or because another authority controls release. Compare the updated detail and underlying order rather than treating an earlier screenshot as permanent.

An ICE detainer can make the end of SEORJ custody a transfer rather than community release. A prison release can likewise lead to APA supervision. Actual departure, destination, and full discharge are three separate questions.
SEORJ Dates for Athens County Cases
SEORJ's online report is a current New Inmate Roster. It has a run timestamp, Jail ID, name, charges, court, disposition, bail, booking date, and other active fields, but no official release-date field or projected-date control. Absence from that snapshot does not reveal when or why custody ended.
Use Athens Municipal eServices for municipal matters and Common Pleas CourtView for felony sentencing, prison commitment, judicial release, community control, violation, and termination entries. A bond order can authorize release but does not establish when SEORJ completed processing. A commitment entry may mean transfer to ODRC rather than release to the community.
For the physical custody event, request the booking/release sheet or custody history from SEORJ and specify the person's name, Jail ID if known, booking date, arresting agency, and case. Ask for actual release date and time, disposition code, and receiving agency when transferred.
Confirm an Athens County Release Date
Once a projected date approaches, check the same official source again. ODRC updates can reflect later credit or board action. SEORJ and the Athens court may have a new hold or order. A stale search result should never substitute for a final record.

Athens Actual Release Record Details
A projected date answers when release might occur under the current calculation. A release record answers what did occur. For SEORJ, a focused request should seek the booking or release sheet, custody-status history, actual date and time, release or disposition code, and receiving agency when the person transferred. Supply the name, Jail ID if known, booking date, arresting agency, and court case so staff can locate the right event.
SEORJ's official contact page lists its Nelsonville address and receptionist at 740-753-4060. Athens County prisoners are housed there, but the Sheriff may hold a related arrest report while the clerk holds the court order. Asking the Sheriff for SEORJ's physical-release timestamp may reach the wrong custodian. Start with the office that created the fact, then use the court entry to interpret it.
For ODRC, ORC 5120.21 requires core information about entrance, transfers, and date, cause, and terms of discharge. The statute does not make the whole inmate or APA file a public record. A narrow request for a discharge fact is more precise and better aligned with the public categories than a demand for the unrestricted file.

Athens Municipal Court and Common Pleas CourtView can reveal the legal timeline behind a date. Municipal handles misdemeanor matters and early felony activity. Common Pleas preserves felony sentencing, prison commitment, judicial release, community control, violations, and termination. A bond order does not supply the final SEORJ processing time. A dismissal can end one case while another hold remains. A sentence awarding jail-time credit can explain why confinement counts toward a term, yet the jail still provides the actual departure event. A prison commitment means leaving SEORJ may be transfer rather than community release.
Read signed journal entries rather than relying on a docket label alone. If a later order modifies credit, sentence, judicial release, or supervision, the projected date may change. Note each order date and compare it with the updated ODRC or SEORJ record.
Read Athens Release Date Language
Small wording differences carry large consequences. Expected, projected, eligible, pending consideration, granted, released, transferred, and discharged do not mean the same thing. Expected or projected is forward-looking. Eligible means the person can be considered under the controlling rules. Granted records a decision, not necessarily the physical event. Released identifies the reporting custodian's ended custody. Discharged can identify the end of the named legal obligation.
Preserve the source label when taking notes. Include the page date or roster timestamp, because a later calculation can supersede it. If two official sources conflict, ask each creating office about its own field instead of blending the dates into an unsupported estimate.
